49ers' New Santa Clara Stadium A Finalist For Super Bowls 50 and 51

With the blueprints for the San Francisco 49ers' new stadium in Santa Clara came the promise of a Super Bowl at the location in the near future.

Sure enough, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell announced on Tuesday that San Francisco was a finalist for Super Bowl 50 in 2016.

They will be going up against South Florida, a decision that will be made at the NFL's Spring meetings in May 2013.
“We are excited to bid for the first Super Bowl in the Bay Area since January of 1985," 49ers CEO Jed York said in a statement. "Nothing brings a region together like a Super Bowl. Now we have to work together to show the new stadium in Santa Clara will put on a great show.”
If the new Santa Clara stadium is not selected, they will become a finalist for Super Bowl 51 in 2017, where they will go up against Houston.

The new Santa Clara stadium is scheduled to be completed by the 2014 NFL season.
